Biographical Information

Diane Jarvis Jones, teacher, writer, social activist, cab driver and artist lives in Canada. Her commitment to knowledge goes back to her roots. She has become known as "The Button Lady" for her unique colorful art which uses buttons to create soothing images.

During her teaching years Diane focused on children and their needs. Not known for shyness, she always championed the underdog. She knew children to be honest and admired them. And when she began writing she resolved to write intelligently for them.

Her first book was written for five-year-olds who witness a death in their family. Independently publishing Aunt Mary Buttons, the story of an aunt's terminal illness, was a long and arduous task, full of pitfalls and trouble. The reward for this undertaking was the rave reviews which greeted this book.

To help families associated with groups like MADD, Diane wrote "Larry, red and blue", the story of the sudden death of a playmate.

And for those bullied she published, The Lucy Doll.

The stories are direct and focused. Jones knows that opening the door to grief and abandonment issues at an early age will help heal some terrible wounds, wounds that can flare up and get ugly later on, if neglected.

When presenting to adults, Jones reminds them, "If you want your kids to talk to you about sex, drugs, and rock"n"roll when they're teens, you had better handle the death of the dog properly when they are four. You won't get a second chance in matters of a child's heart."

Jones biggest fan continues to be Lily, her 93 year-old mother, who is still shaking her head at the antics of her little green eyed Gemini child.

Diane Jarvis Jones and her art have been featured on radio, television, and in the press, including CBC TV's "On The Road Again" and Roger's TV's "Plugged In". A natural performer, Diane does readings and presentations at schools and libraries for children or adults.
